What financial support is offered in the European Union?

Businesses, governments and financial institutions can use the multiple financing structures that are available from the European Union, such as the LIFE-program, RDP’s, INTERREG, ERDF and ESF.

LIFE

The LIFE program is a European financing structure aimed at protecting and restoring plant- and animal species. Projects within LIFE are often centered in Natura 2000 areas.

More information on the LIFE Programme website of the European Commission.

RDPs

Rural Development Programmes (RDPs) provide EU member states with instruments and financial support for measures, which are among others aimed at biodiversity. The restrictions to this program are flexible to be able to fit a range of local environments.

More information at the Rural Development Gateway 2014-2020.

INTERREG

INTERREG invests in innovative and sustainable solutions for Europe, and aims at governments, knowledge institutes, businesses, development cooperatives and NGOs. INTERREG consists of four programs, of which one is to ‘retain and protect the environment’.

More information on the website of RVO.

Natural Capital Financing Facility

In the Natural Capital Financing Facility (NCFF), funds of the European Investment Bank (EIB) and European Commission funds of the LIFE program are combined to support natural capital. NFCC wants to show financial markets and potential investors that it is attractive to invest in projects around natural capital.
